about

“Ask” was inspired by Thomas Clarke’s many failed attempts at love and relationships. The original composition took place shortly after a very “horrific and psychotic” hookup that eventually led Thomas Clarke to move out of Austin, TX.

lyrics

Is it too much to ask
if I'm interested in you
Are you interested in me?

Is it too much to ask
after our hot night
will I ever see you again?

Is it too much to ask
if you want to be with me
why your Facebook profile's down
and your cellphone's not in service?

Is it too much to ask
if we're through
why you didn't notify me?

Is it too much to ask, Lord
why is it every time I seek love
it ends so ugly?

Is it because I'm externally ugly
and stuck being attracted to those who are internally ugly?

Tired of the lies and the half truths
Tired of misfortune
Tired of always being taken advantage of.

Is it too much to ask, Lord
why does it always end this way?

Is it too much to ask
does real love ever exist
and will I ever find it?

Is it too much to ask
if hurt and bluff and a bit of fluff
always follow that personal ad
or that drink at the Halcyon?

Maybe I didn't get the memo....
