City Of The Dead
02:50
|
|
||
Another sleepless night
thinking about you again
after more than 25 years
you still curse me
city of the dead, marching toward your own funeral
drugs, racism, insanity
and yet you proudly march on
seems fitting since I lost so much there
including my soul
Back to the place where I lost it all-again
Can't go back, another funeral again
seems I only went back there when someone was dead or dying
seems fitting since I lost so much there
including my soul
grandparents, parents, sister, what's next?
what would you expect in the city of the dead?
so what if my mother, MLK, and Elvis died at the same hospital?
I don't care to join them
whoever said walking through the streets of this town was magical and fun
never stepped in my shoes
from getting beat up in high school
to getting mugged 10 feet off of Beale
waiting for the quake to destroy this place
and end the suffering
watched my sister go from normal to insane
watched my family wither and die
and they wonder why I left
that place was never my home even for the decade I was there
they said my formative years were there
which is why I'm the ogre I am now
Maybe New York, Louisville, and Baltimore messed me up too
maybe I shouldn't have moved back to my other childhood home
but they're still better than the hellhole on the bluffs
don't know why my thoughts went back there
maybe it's time to let the dead bury their dead
and get on with my own life

Back

It doesn't feel so good to be back
nach bhfuil sé go maith a bheith ar ais
Here we go again
Good times gone again
back to life, back to grim reality
no more nice place with a kitchen or affordable rent
Here we go again
Good times gone again
back to life, back to grim reality
no more nice place with a kitchen or affordable rent
no more good drinks or social life or partying
no more cute girls flirting with you
or ugly ones either
back to the rat race
back to the hate
no more green
not even on the dollar bills
no more happy music
just the groans and the drones
love's gone back away an ocean or two
the rain's gone, but the sun's not back either
no more nice people
it's everyone for themselves
we'll help the poor, they say
so why was I richer when I was away
Everything's great, they say
but it was better in Austin or Dublin or London or Munchen
You may not be from here, but you're stuck here and barred from going home
Can't get high or drunk to ease the pain, even if you could afford it
Gave up on this land a while back, but no skills to go anywhere else
Escorted out of Eden, angels barring me from paradise
demons to the left of me, jokers to the right
nobody in the middle with me
they're all a pond away, an ocean away, a bridge away, mountains and continents away
a spiritual gulf away
a spiritual gulf away
It doesn't feel so good to be back

Piping Plovers Part 2
02:35
|
|||
We're back!
Don't you know it?
We look cute, but don't mess with us
we're the piping plovers
We're back!
Don't you know it?
Get the lawyers ready
beacuse we're going to sue you!
Get the gull goons
Our club is doing fine
The seafood's nice and fresh
but you idiots will never join us in the club!
Get the gull goons
We look cute, but don't mess with us
we're the piping plovers
The pigeons stopped paying tribute,
so we got them evicted from their penthouse on Beach 116th Street!
They really shouldn't have taken that jacuzzi
so we sprayed them with catnip and let the alley cats do the rest!
Isn't it great to claim to be endangered
in case the cats get any weird ideas
Get the gull goons
Get the gull goons
Hey Rocco, nice cameo on that Seabreeze video
Hey, we need a new nesting ground
so let's condemn that mansion in Neponsit!
We look cute, but don't misjudge us!
We get 40 percent off the Boardwalk
And 10 grand for each day it's delayed
Life is great by the sea
If you know how to milk the system
And for those Rockaway humans who cross us
We'll get our Socialist buddies in Albany and Manhattan to make your life a living hell!
We look cute, but don't mess with us
we're the piping plovers
Get the gull goons
Don't mess with us!

Feel Part 2

What does it feel like to not oversleep?
What does it feel like to keep a job for more than a year?
What does it feel like to actually act your age?
What does it feel like to not have to move when you lose a job?
What does it feel like to be satisfied with the Presidential Candidates?
What does it feel like to sneak across the Rio Grande?
What does it feel like to be satisfied with life?
What does it feel like to learn German?
What does it feel like to be satisfied with the crumbling American Society?
What does it feel like to not be extremely pissed off?
What does it feel like to know that God actually loves you?
What does it feel like to not be ridiculed for being smart?
What does it feel like to have someone who loves you back?
What does it feel like to have to emigrate time and time again?
What does it feel like to think suicide is the answer?
What does it feel like to not be ridiculed by everybody?
What does it feel like on top of the world?
What does it feel like to sneak into Europe?
What does it feel like to be ridiculed by a supposedly conservative billionaire and his left wing opponent?
What does it feel like to be happy?
What does it feel like to know you write well?
What does it feel like to know a Frenchman and a Connecticut woman ripped off your song idea more than a decade ago?
What does it feel like to recycle your old ideas?
What does it feel like to come up with a better song than last time?

Nitecap

primarily instrumental, but the vocals are (with Irish translation into English in parentheses):
Feel the music
Dúirt tú nach raibh mé é a dhéanamh , anois ach éisteacht (you said i couldn't do it, now just listen, motherfuckers)
Oh come on now, baby
am dúnta (closing time)
and it's funky
póg mo thóin (kiss my ass)
break it down
break it down
and it's funky
nach bhfuil sé go hiontach a bheith ar ais (it's not great to be back)
and let it flow
póg mo thóin
é a bhriseadh síos (break it down)
Oh come on now, baby
break it down
am dúnta
póg mo thóin
sin uile do anois (that's all for now, folks)
